New Year Just Around the River Bend
December 1, 2011Sounds like it could be a Disney sound track, right? Well, it might be. You know, the new year for my Company started today, the new fiscal year that is. It was good to be able to come into work and see the Annual Availability metrics all green with zero downtime as I was on a call for the first outage of the year. At least for a fleeting moment, all is good in the world of metrics–updates coming to a web-page near me tomorrow.
That got me thinking about a few other things and I thought I would take a moment to mention that as we move into the new year, right now is a good time to think about those things that are always on our mind, but we never seem to get the solution we need.
- BCP – How are you stacked for BCP? Did you know there are companies in the area that will host BCP solutions for a fee? Do you need something like that? Do you have questions about BCP?
- Online Presence – How is your online presence? Is it consistent? If I “google, bing, or yahoo” you, will I see the picture you want me to see, or would I be confused? What about your Company? Do you have questions about how to implement social media or about how to manage your online presence?
- All work and no play makes for a boring day, or does it? Do you have concerns about balancing your work and your life? Is your work your life?
What other things come to mind? These are all things we would like to hear about. We would like to help you as a chapter to get answers to all your questions. We can do this at chapter meetings, we can do it in the newsletters, we can do it in e-mail notifications. We have many avenues available to us. However, we feel that the best avenue is face to face discussion. Our next chapter meeting is coming up in January, we would love to see you there.
Why don’t you plan to come join with us. Bring a friend or two and make an event out of it. We would love to see you. Until then, have a happy holiday season and spread some cheer. If it all seems a little chaotic, perhaps it is time to simplify some things, send a few less cards, buy fewer presents and spend a little more time with those you care about.
Have an enjoyable season. You have my permissio (like you even needed it).

Summer Break is Almost Over
August 8, 2011The summer break is almost over. I hope you all had an enjoyable time over the couple of months traditionally known as “schools out” months. Was school really out? I hope that everyone was able to take advantage of a little bit of time and complete some professional training. I know I did. I have a certificate now for Tivoli Workload Manager. I also completed some online training in Project Management–no certification yet. One cool training I completed on the HDI site was their KCS Fundamentals.
What training have you completed this summer? We would like to hear from you.
